Description of the project

Both the quality and the availability of appropriate information for visitors are considered equally important. Visits4u, therefore, wants to effectively address customer satisfaction under the approach of tourism inclusion, focusing on employee skills and improving information on accessibility. The project has been implemented through trainings, seminars for local tourism companies, entrepreneurship courses – demonstrating that accessibility is good business – and toolkits to help incorporate inclusion practices in tourism.

The relationship behind the project derives from remarkable research and development across Europe, showing that the attitude of staff is classified as a key factor in enjoying an experience.

By the end of the project in each partner country, visits4u aims to establish a strong tourism network to increase safety, knowledge and commitment to making services more accessible and, as a result, more sustainable.

Work packages

The action is structured in four Work Packages:

Capacity Building

This is the pillar of visits4u; it will consist of including training courses adapted by the partners and for employees of the local tourism industry, entrepreneurs and SMEs and to guide the support of the partners.
This package includes the development of an inclusive tourism training module tested by the respective partners from Italy and Bulgaria.
Itinerary Design Research

The partners have to map the current state of the layout of the proposed itineraries in detail and present an updated profile of accessibility and tourism in their regions. The proposed itineraries will be evaluated by a UK accessibility technician.

Product development and implementation.

This will include the development of tourism packages in three partner countries (Greece, Latvia and Spain) based on two themes: modern art and history. Finally, each information in these products will also be available in sign language and easy to read format.

Dissemination and evaluation

The final work package will involve ongoing promotion of the products to tourists and sharing the results of the project at the final conference in Latvia.
Partners will have to try to create links with existing trans-European initiatives – such as ENAT (European Network for Accessible Tourism) and PANTOU (the directory of trans-European accessible tourism services) – to strengthen the heritage of visits4u and lead to more potential synergies in the future.


Visits4u is committed to seven partners in six countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Spain and the United Kingdom. The consortium provides a good practice model with all participants together and general tourism SMEs, organisations with expertise in inclusive environments and public authorities. This model offers an example of sustainable and effective mechanisms in the sector, where community and disability organisations can offer continued commitment to the tourism business and advise on potential barriers; at the same time, public institutions can actively help to standardise applications for inclusive tourism services in their regions.
